Is Sweating Overrated

8 ways to burn calories without sweating

Activity is not just about "exercise," it's about moving your body more all day long. This type of light activity is essential, whether you're a card-carrying couch potato or a marathon runner. Growing evidence finds that too much sitting harms your heart health. Worse, that damage is not easily undone by jumping on the elliptical trainer for 30 minutes in the morning if you spend the other 23 ½ hours sleeping and sitting.  A recent study of 1,579 people found that people whose jobs require more than 6 hours of chair time a day are 68% more likely to wind up overweight than those who sit less.

The solution: Stand more. By using these tips you'll be in motion more all day long. That alone could be enough to help you shed stubborn pounds for good.

Lose 35+ pounds without working out

1.  Limit yourself to one TV show: Watching TV is a great way to unwind. But when it comes to the tube, there's such a thing as too much downtime. The average American tunes in for 3 hours a day, which is really bad news for your waistline, especially when you consider that watching TV burns only slightly more calories than sleeping. Harvard researchers have found that every 2 hours spent watching television increases the likelihood of obesity by 23% and raises your risk of developing diabetes by 14%. Trade 1 hour of TV time for one long walk, and you can slash your obesity risk by 24% and lower your risk of diabetes by 34%.

2.  Step it up: There's a reason an exercise machine called the Stair-Master exists: Taking the stairs is really, really good exercise! In one study, exercise scientists calculated that by taking just two more flights of stairs (up and down) each day, you could burn off 6 pounds in a year. Find excuses to make multiple trips between floors at work (using a restroom on another floor is one way) and at home.

3.  Walk the halls at work: When you're stuck for ideas at work, get up and walk the halls. Stand and stretch during phone calls. Twice a day, get up and walk to talk to a colleague instead of e-mailing. Stanford University researchers calculated that if you were to walk across your office building and back to talk to a coworker instead of spending the same 2 minutes e-mailing, you could spare yourself 11 pounds over 10 years--effectively avoiding the "midlife spread."

4.  Stand at your desk: Here's a very simple move that every office worker can do: Stand up. Sitting at your desk for an hour burns 63 calories. Standing burns 127, twice as many. If you have a cordless phone, you might even be able to pace a bit, just to get the blood flowing even more. Many workplaces are now offering drafting-style tables and high chairs for office workers, which gives you the option of working on your feet most of the day and sitting down to take breaks (instead of the other way around--standing when you need a break). Ask your human resources manager about them. You'll be surprised how much more energy you have when you spend your day on your feet rather than in your seat.

5.  Get on the ball: Sit on a large stability or Swiss ball while checking e-mail in the evening. It's an easy way to engage all of your muscles for 15 to 20 minutes. You might even be inspired to do a few stretches and crunches after you log off.

6.  Fire the maid and gardener: All those services that you hire to make your life easier can also end up making you heavier. Small daily tasks, like weeding the garden, mowing the lawn, trimming hedges, and cleaning house, can add up to an aerobic workout. In a 2-year study of 230 overweight and inactive men and women, researchers at the Cooper Institute, an aerobics-research organization in Dallas, found that those who spent 30 minutes a day raking the lawn, taking the stairs, and walking from far spaces in parking lots achieved the same improvements in fitness, blood pressure, and body fat as those who went to the gym for vigorous exercise 20 to 60 minutes at a time, 5 days a week.

7.  Prep yourself slim: Cooking is a great wayo burn calories. Slicing, dicing, and braising burns twice as many , in fact, as calling your Chinese takeout place. Because you're in charge of the ingredients, cook with metabolism-boosting ingredients like those from the Active Calorie Diet. Limit takeout and delivery to two meals a week, tops.

8. Consider a stepper: Office workers are ideal candidates for a portable mini stepper like the Stamina InStride Electronic Mini Stepper--essentially, just two small Stair-climber  -like pedals without the giant machine attached. Research from the Mayo Clinic found that workers who used these clever step devices while making phone calls or answering e-mail burned an extra 290 calories an hour--enough to burn off more than 40 pounds over the course of a year if they used the machines just 2 hours a day. The strategy is a little unconventional but worth considering. The stepper is relatively inexpensive and small enough to slide under your desk when you're not using it. Stepping is also something you can do while watching TV at night.

How do you burn calories without working up a sweat?

What burn 300 calories in 24 min without running

This is my next workout plan...

The best-kept secret to maximizing your fat burn? A little thing called Tabata intervals. These are super quick, amazingly effective short bursts of exercise done for 20 seconds, followed by 10 seconds rest. This unique twist on interval training may sound simple, but the calorie-sizzling results will shock you: You’ll torch 300 calories in just 24 minutes with SELF’s Drop 10 Challenge Tabata workout, plus your metabolism will stay cranked post-workout, incinerating as many as 120 extra calories long after you’ve left the gym! Try it today and I guarantee you’ll be hooked—the workout flies by so quickly, you’re done before you know it. Complete it three times, and you could drop 2 pounds this week!

You’ll need: A light to medium resistance band with or without handles and a timer. I love the GymBoss ($20; GymBoss.com, or download the free app) but counting (“one-one hundred, two-one hundred…”) works just as well.

What to do: Perform the first move for 20 seconds, then rest for 10 seconds; do that 20-10 cycle eight times before proceeding to the next exercise. Finish the six moves and you’re done in less time than it takes to watch the evening news!

Secrets of Skinny people

Well according to yahoo experts here are the & secrets of slim/skinny people

Ever notice how some women seem to stay slim without ever stressing about missed workouts or counting a single calorie? It seems unfair—and frustrating!—but those ladies might have some secrets the rest of us can steal. Turns out, you don’t have to completely overhaul your diet or exercise regimen to see fast and impressive results on the scale. (Though if you want a great, easy-to-follow plan, register for the Drop 10 Challenge on Self.com to lose 10 pounds in just five weeks.) In fact, recent research shows that sometimes it’s little, practically effortless changes to everyday habits that make the pounds fall off fast and forever. Try incorporating some of these simple, science-backed steps into your day-to-day life—it’s your turn to become one of those “naturally” slim lucky few!
Make time for tea
Women with the highest intake of catechins, antioxidants in tea that may accelerate fat burn, gained less weight over 14 years than those who sipped less, a study in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reveals. White and green brews have the most catechins. Get brewing!

Move your workouts to the morning
Breaking a sweat before you sit down to breakfast can help you trim down faster, a study in The Journal of Physiology finds. Exercising on an empty stomach in the A.M. improves glucose tolerance, which spurs your body to shed fat.

Join the breakfast club
If you don’t already have regular morning meals, it’s time to start: Lifelong early eaters have a waistline about 2 inches smaller than that of breakfast skippers, The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reveals. An A.M. meal may rev metabolism; plus, it may cause you to make less of an enzyme that raises cholesterol.

Savor your food
Eating slowly and steadily can help you stay slim. People who took 30 minutes to eat a bowl of ice cream created more fullness hormones than did those who ate faster, a study in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism notes. Whenever you can, ditch distractions like the television while you’re dining so you can concentrate on enjoying the yummy food in front of you.

Become a creature of habit
Eating at the same times every day and could help you drop pounds. When mice ate at scheduled mealtimes and fasted for 12 hours at night, their liver turned on genes that burned more sugar and fat, say scientists at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, California. No, we’re not mice, but if something as simple as sitting down to dinner at 7 P.M. every night helps speed weight loss, why not give it a shot?

Start with water
Downing two cups of H2O before meals helped people lose about 5 pounds more than those who said no to water, research from Virginia Tech reveals. Water is filling, so sippers ate 75 to 90 calories less. Enjoy a few cups of water while you prep a meal or before your entrée arrives at a restaurant to effortlessly keep calories in check.

Step on the scale
Dieters who weighed themselves at least weekly lost more weight than those who didn’t, according to research from the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation. Plus, the habit helped nondieters stay at a stable weight. Spotting scale swings early allows you to tweak your eating and exercise routine before pounds can pile up.

PH

PH

The pH of our body is a critically important but rarely discussed aspect of health. pH stands for “potential or power of hydrogen” and refers to the acidity or alkalinity (also referred to as basicity) of various bodily fluids such as saliva, blood and urine. This is not to be confused with stomach acidity issues or what’s commonly referred to as heartburn and its 21st century incarnation: acid reflux. A healthy, properly functioning stomach has a naturally acidic pH and is separate from the pH of other bodily fluids.
The pH scale ranges from pH 0 (extremely acidic) to pH 14 (extremely alkaline), with the pH of human blood falling just above neutral at 7.4. To maintain health & function optimally, our blood must stay within the pH 7.0 to 7.4 range; slightly alkaline.
The best way to raise body pH is making sure that your body has all of the minerals it needs. Maintaining a balanced alkaline body pH is our first line of defense against aging and disease. Maintaining proper blood pH is so critical that the body will pull minerals and nutrients from our bones and tissues to buffer acidity and preserve to keep our blood alkaline. Acidosis occurs when a person has a consistent acidic pH. Acidosis sets us up for numerous health issues including increased susceptibility to viral and bacterial infections, accelerated aging, osteoporosis, obesity and cancer, to name but a few.

Our pH is largely determined by 3 factors: Diet, Stress, and Oxygen intake

Ways to Raise Your pH:

Eat an alkalizing diet Lessen/ manage stress
Incorporate some form of regular physical activity into our life pH drops
Oxygen Therapy

You can test the pH of your blood, saliva or urine using pH test strips these strips quickly indicate whether you are in the alkaline or acid zone. If our pH consistently registers below 7.0 then you should consider making diet and lifestyle adjustment. Adjusting your diet to include more alkalizing foods is one of the easiest ways to change your pH with the recommended ratio being 75% alkalizing foods to 25% acidifying foods. A food’s acidity or alkalinity is not determined by its pH when it’s sitting on our plate, but by the pH of the metabolic byproduct or the “ash” that remains after it’s been digested and absorbed by the body.

Master Cleanse Day 3

Day 3

Ok Today is day 3 and I am still feeling pretty great. I lost 4 pounds as of this am and I am not hungry at all and I still have energy. So I had the most vivid dreams mainly about a buffet of food and I was tasting everything mainly shrimp fried rice, that's crazy I know. I also kind of in the same dream I was dating/talking to/fooling around with 2 friends and one of the friends confronted me. Hummm. So far I had 3 of my oxy flush pills. I have to get to the store to get more sienna tea, which is why I didn't just do sienna tea, The salt water flush is almost intolerable after more than one teaspoon so I don't think I will be doing that anymore. I may try though. I went out dancing last night with my sister and I wasn't hungry and I felt great. My sleep is also very good and deep.  I got a late start to the day. I drank about 3 cups yesterday and I’m going to aim for 4 today. For some reason it’s just hard for me to get through so many cups but I’m trying.

As the night comes around and my family prepares dinner day three is becoming a challenge for me mentally. My mom is preparing pork chops, which I don't eat, but I want to take a bite into one (smh). I think I may just be feeling like this because its day 3 which is a hard day for most. But I also didn't do the SWF this morning, so that may be making it a little harder. I may try to d it again tomorrow

Master Cleanse Day 2

Day 2

So I did the SWF today and I honestly don't think I'm going to keep doing it
because I can only tolerate one teaspoon of salt and I don't think that's doing
the job, so tomorrow I will do tea twice. I had 2 ½ glasses of lemonade so far
today. I had a lot of running around to do so I didn't get to exercise which is
ok. I'm still feeling pretty great. I'm just used to eating. I am definitely
noticing that food fills a void in my life, satisfies my boredom and is one of
my best friends...lol. I'm just so used to eating just because I want to and not
necessarily because I'm hungry. I am going to make a conscious effort to change
this once I am done with my cleanse. Although this is like my 4th liquid fast,
2nd master cleanse, I just wanna eat something. But I know I'm not because I
really want the results at the end and my sinuses are feeling a lot better
already!

Master Cleanse Day 1

So I started my cleanse yesterday and wanted to give a quick update. Although I
have done the Master Cleanse before I never wrote and recorded my experience.

Thursday February 17th

So today is the first day on my cleanse. I feel great I did the salt water
cleanse this am with only a teaspoon of salt and I took one of my oxyflush
capsules. My reason for doing this cleanse is to clean myself out so that my
migraine headaches will end. I will do this for 25 -30 days.

I had a slight headache that I thought was going to turn into a migraine and
then it went away after I drank my second 10oz of lemonade

Worked out on the treadmill for 30 min burned 110cal at 2.0 speed nothing
serious just a light walk I usually workout everyday so it didn't even feel like
I was doing anything. I had a slight pain in my side that went away quickly. The
Saltwater flush didn't work today but ppl say that it sometimes doesn't work on
the first day I honestly feel great today!!! Laid down most of the day though.

I drank 2 10oz of lemonade, I have to make myself drink more tomorrow

Wednesday

The Master Cleanse

Well thank goodness for me I have already started recording the results from my master cleanse because today I am on day 7. I just wanna give everyone a brief breakdown of what The Master Cleanser is and resources and then I will start my posts.

This is straight from the Master Cleanse Yahoo Group. Which I encourage everyone to join. They are very supportive and have a lot of information about the cleanse.

This should be a link to the Master Cleanse Yahoo Group

but I digress....

This information was obtained from the website: http://www.therawfoodsite.com/mastercleanse.htm (by Peter Glickman)
[I have added clarifications, and modified the information to fit a Canadian context (i.e., grades of maple syrup) — Mimsie ]

I have personally done this cleanse for 20 days and then six months later for 10 days. I have counseled my wife and twenty-seven year old son through it twice each as well as many other people. Please believe me when I say that the Master Cleanse by Stanley Burroughs is, in my opinion, the fastest and most effective way to regain your vitality.
Never mind that it will help you lose weight and give you astounding energy. Although I have included my own summary of points for the Master Cleanse, I recommend you buy the book (available through Amazon.ca).
For a minimum of 10 days, drink a mixture of:
· 2 Tablespoons lemon or lime juice (approx. ½ lemon) — Use fresh (organic) lemons or limes only, never canned lemon or lime juice nor frozen lemonade or frozen juice.
· 2 Tablespoons organic [Grade C-Amber (Canadian)] maple syrup — [Available at health food store]. (Not maple-flavored sugar syrup or syrup from companies that use formaldehyde to process the syrup),
· 1/10 Teaspoon cayenne pepper (red pepper) or to taste, and
· Water, medium hot or cold as preferred — distilled, reverse osmosis, or spring fed, but not tap water.
Combine the juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper in a 10 oz glass and fill with water
Drink six to twelve glasses of this lemonade mixture daily. No food is eaten nor any vitamin supplements taken during the cleanse. If you get hungry, have another glass of lemonade. After all, this is also called the "lemonade diet."
If you are overweight, you may use less maple syrup. If you are underweight, use more maple syrup if you wish. If you are worried about losing weight, "... The only things you can possible lose are mucus; waste, and disease. Healthy tissue will not be eliminated."
Do not vary the amount of lemon juice per glass and be sure to drink at least six glasses of “lemonade” a day. You can drink more water, if you want.

Enhance Your Elimination

This is a cleanse as opposed to a weight loss diet. So, you need to ensure you are eliminating the toxins that are being loosened in your system. Cravings, aches, pains, mental irritability and tiredness will turn on as your toxins are mobilized. To eliminate these unpleasant sensations, you need to be sure you have two, three, or more bowel movements a day.
Drink a laxative herb tea each evening. You can find it in your local health food store. I recommend senna tea or a blend with senna in it. (Senna is an herb that promotes bowel movement.) The kind I've bought warn you not to drink more than two cups per day.
Each morning on an empty stomach, add two teaspoons of sea salt to a full quart (4 cups) of luke-warm water. Do not use ordinary iodized salt as it will not work properly. Drink the entire quart of salt water first thing in the morning. "Chug" this — drink it as fast as possible. Within an hour several bowel movements will likely occur. (You'll need to be by a toilet for half an hour to an hour.) If you do not have several bowel movements, try a little more salt in the water until it works.
Drink the herb laxative tea at night to loosen and the salt water each morning to wash it out. If you can't drink the salt water in the morning, drink the herb laxative tea at night and in the morning.

Breaking Your Fast

Breaking a long fast is very, very important. You should ease your way back to solid food after one or two additional days of juices, orange or grapefruit. If you are going back to raw fruits and vegetables, you may do so on the afternoon of the second day.
If you have been a meat eater and/or milk products consumer, shift to cooked vegetable soup on the afternoon of the second day and a salad for dinner. Keep the lemonade drink as your breakfast drink after that. Of course, you would do better with the least amount of meat and no milk products as they are very productive of mucus and hinder digestion and absorption of nutrients.

Detox Symptoms

Detoxifying literally means removing poisons from your body. Once these poisons are gone, you will feel energetic, vital, happy and healthy. It is the poisons that make us feel tired, mentally confused, irritable, unhappy, depressed and ill. Consequently you should look forward to detoxification.
Unfortunately, when the toxins are mobilized, they will bring about those unpleasant feelings and tempt you to quit the cleanse before you are through. So, you need to understand the symptoms of detoxification and ensure that you drink your laxative tea and salt water to stimulate elimination of those toxins.
My experience with the cleanse and with various people doing it has taught me that whatever symptom I experienced one day, it would be gone the next morning with my bowel movements. It is nevertheless helpful to know when you are detoxifying because it helps you to get through that symptom to know it will be gone tomorrow.
I have grouped the detox symptoms I and others have had into three groups:
· Cravings — I have never known anyone to be hungry on this cleanse. Drinking more lemonade or water handles that. I have, however, observed that people on the cleanse crave what they are detoxifying. If this were not true, the craving would not go away the next morning with bowel movements. You can crave anything when detoxifying, but most likely you will experience cravings for the most toxic foods, such as pizza, hamburgers, bar-b-que ribs, etc.
· Mental unpleasantness — (such as tiredness, irritability, wanting to quit, or being upset) On my first 20 day cleanse, I was not tired except on the fifteenth day. The next morning, I experienced heat in my bowel movements, an indication that acidic toxins were being eliminated. I also lost all sense of tiredness.
· Aches or pains — I have not experienced any myself, but my son's girlfriend did have a headache her first or second night. Again, these aches and pains leave after the bowel movements the next morning.
I hope you will have the same wonderful increase in mental clarity, health, energy and positive mental attitude that I and others have found. If I can be of any additional help, please email me.
Yours in Health,
Peter Glickman
Additional Notes: (by Mimsie)
Keep a journal during the fast, dedicated to the fast. Make sure the daily experience is logged into the journal each day. Each person’s body is unique, and this log will help you on future fasts — to know how your body handles it, what you are likely to experience, etc. so that you can be prepared.
Keep focused. Have some anchors in place to hold on to when your mind goes wonky because of detox. Anchors could be teaching tapes, books, scriptures to memorize. Write down the purpose of your fast in your journal and flag the page so you can find it easily. During severe detox, you will not be thinking straight. Have a mechanism in place to handle this – be prepared.
Do this fast with someone else who will encourage you.
