Sometimes chemicals are given tricky names to disguise what they really are ... chemicals. They are not good for our body and have no business being in the foods we eat. Below are a list of ingredients that you may find in some of your favorite foods.
Acesulfame – A synthetic chemical that our bodies cant metabolize. This substance needs more testing to determine safety.Aspartame – also known as equal, NutraSweet and NatraTaste. It is a synthetic derivation of a combination of the amino acids aspartic acid and phenylalanine. There are few if any non-industry funded studies that have been done t resolve this sweetener’s safety issues. Some European studies link the consumption of aspartame with cancer in rats.Crystalline Fructose – High- fructose corn syrup that has been further processes to crystallizeDextrose – a sweetener which is also called corn syrup or grape sugar. It is usually obtained in the hydrolysis of starch into glucose.High Fructose corn syrup (HFCS) – is a product that can be cheaply produced because of excess corn production due to government subsidies. Corn syrup initially does not contain much fructose. Through a multistage process of mixing corn syrup with bacterial enzymes, a dramatic increase in fructose is produced, making it much sweeter and cheaper than cane sugar. Americans consume over 90 pounds per year. It metabolizes ito fat faster than sugar, and overconsumption of this is linked to weight issuesSaccharin – A synthetic chemical that was discovered in 1879. It is also known as Sweet n Low. Our bodies can’t metabolize saccharin, and there is much evidence that it is unsafe for human consumptionSucralose – is also known as splenda. Sugar is chemically combined with chlorine to produce a sweetener that our bodies can’t use as fuel, making it noncaloric. Americans consume 20 pounds of artificial sweetener per year.
