Male Infertility

Male infertility it is the inability to conceive a child after 6 months of unprotected sex in the absence of female causes, a total sperm count lower than 5 million/ml, the presence of greater than fifty percent abnormal sperm, the inability of sperm to impregnate egg. it is estimated that as many as 15% of couples have difficulty conceiving a child. What couples sometimes overlook is that the male and the female may be infertile. We will look at the causes of male infertility, test that can determine if the male is infertile and some ways to achieve fertility.

Causes:

Deficient sperm production Ductal obstruction: congestional defects, post, infectious obstruction, cystic fibroids, vasectomy
Ejaculatory dysfunction: Premature ejaculation, retrograde ejaculation
Disorders of accessory glands: infection, inflammation, anti-sperm antibodies
Coital disorders: defects in technique, premature withdrawal, erectile dysfunction

How one may achieve one of the above conditions:

Increased scrotal temperature from wearing tight fitting clothing or briefs, varicose veins that surround the testes. Environmental causes such as heavy pollution, heavy metals (lead, mercury, arsenic, etc, organic solvents, pesticides
The diet can also be a major cause an increase in saturated fats, reduced intake of fruits, vegetables and whole grains, reduced dietary fiber, and increased exposure to synthetic estrogens, over use of alcohol, tobacco or marijuana, and prescription drugs.

What can you do to become fertile again:

Decrease scrotal temperature- the scrotal sac normally keeps the testes at a temperature of 94-96 degrees Fahrenheit. at higher temperatures sperm production is greatly inhibited or stopped completely. a testicular hypothermia devise (http://www.rmsmedicalproducts.com/THDinfo.htm) can be used to reduce scrotal temperature Get tested for infections and std's- An Infection may more than likely be the cause infertility. Chlamydia is one of the most common infections in the male genitourinary tract.
Diet change-
Add vitamin C and Antioxidants to your diet this will help with oxidative damage due to free radicals Vitamin B12 Arginine Carnitine Ginseng Pygeum africanum Stop smoking
Fats and oils: decrease the saturated fas, hydrogenated oils,, and trans fatty oils,
Add Coconut and omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil and flax seeds
Zinc is one of the most critical trace minerals for male sexual function. It is involved in male sexual function. it is involved in every aspect of male reproduction. (Zinc can be found in whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds

Test that can determine fertility:

Semen analysis is the most widely used test to estimate potential male infertility. The semen is analyzed for concentration of sperm and sperm quality.
